Underlining

How can I make the underlining under Group appear as it does no the below screen shot? It is not a normal border as it would appear on the blue dotted line from corner to corner & it is not Font underlining as this just underlines the word Group & no more.

I have tried inserting the screen shot but it doesn't work. When you reply to this note I will email you the screen shot so you know what I'm talking about.

Many thanks,
Richard

RE: Underlining

Hello Richard,

Thanks for the screenshot.

I have attached a file for your info and just in case you are unable to read the file data for whatever reason, I have described below how I achieved what you are looking for.

1) In a cell type the heading then immediately click the Borders drop-down and select the Horizontal Line option. Right click the line and select Format Horizontal Line and change the format to a solid colour with a size of .5pt.

2) A second option is to simply go to the insert ribbon and select the line tool from the shapes button and holding the shift key down then click and drag a line. This has its drawbacks which you will encounter when you try to increase the row height. The line will simply stay where you placed it and requires editing to get it in the correct position, whereas, the Horizontal Line outlined in (1) above always stays with the cell where it was placed.

Hopes this is what you were looking for!

RE: Underlining

I have not been able to do option 1, non of the horizontal lines right click, I think I must be doing something wrong.
Option 2 works put painful & if I try & move them some of them go off in strainge directions.

RE: Underlining

Hello Richard,

Were you able to open the file I sent you?

If you did open the file, it is possible to right click on the line. Try left clicking the horizontal line first, then right clicking it. You can then format the line or if you wish press delete to get rid of it.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

Word tip:

Type Out a Table

Tables can be created by simply typing out a string of PLUS SIGNS (+) and MINUS SIGNS (-).

First start the row with a PLUS SIGN (+) and then type MINUS SIGN (-) until you have the column width you want. To add a new column type PLUS SIGN (+) again. When you're done type a final PLUS SIGN (+) and press ENTER.

Word turns your text into a table. To add more rows to your table, move to the last cell in the table and press TAB.

Ensure to turn on the AutoFormat feature in Word.
That is, on the Tools > AutoCorrect menu. Select the AutoFormat As You Type tab and select the Tables check box.
