Word 2007

Hi, just enjoyed the Word advanced 2007 training course! Trying to update some of our forms by using the 'legacy forms' copntrols. Only problem is that when I try to 'Protect Document' by restricting editting controls microsoft asks me to sign up with a windows live id before i can use this service? Confused! Am i doing something wrong? Is there another way around it?

RE: Word 2007

Hello Deborah,

Thank you for your question regarding Protecting your document containing form controls. The reason why this happened is because you selected Restricted Access which gave you the problems you encountered. You should have chosen Restrict Formatting And Editing and I have provided full steps for you to achieve success with this. These are as follows:

To password protect a completed form:
1. Open the document or template containing the form you want to password protect.
2. On the Ribbon, select the Developer tab.
3. In the Protect group, click Protect Document and choose Restrict Formatting And Editing.
4. In the Restrict Formatting And Editing task pane, in the Editing Restrictions section, check the Allow Only This Type Of Editing In The Document check box.
5. Below the check box, from the drop-down list, select Filling In Forms.
6. In the Start Enforcement section, click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
7. In the Start Enforcing Protection dialog box, in the Enter New Password (Optional) text box, type the desired password and press Tab.
8. In the Re-enter Password To Confirm text box, retype the password and click OK to protect the form.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Word tip:

Move Toolbar buttons

In both Word and Excel you can Move Toolbar buttons to a different position or even delete them from the toolbar by pressing the ALT key and then dragging them to a new position, Note: dragging them off the toolbars completely will delete them.
To replace/repair them; View, Toolbars, Customise, Select Toolbars tab, select Toolbar to repair and click Reset button, Click OK.
