How do I link across multiple projects without a shared resource pool?

RE: Multiple Projects

Hi Chris

First off create a blank Project. Click on the first blank row then from the insert menu choose Project... and then select the project file you would like to insert. Repeat the process adding at least one more project file.

Click in the plus symbols beside the inserted project titles to open up the subtasks. In the Gantt chart move mouse over the bar of the predecessor task, left-click and drag your mouse over the successor bar in the other project and let go. The link now spans multiple projects.

Finally double click on the link arrow to choose the type of dependency you want.

Let us know if you need any further help or have any other questions.

Kind regards,

Andrew

MS Project tip:

Set default task type - Project 2010

a. In Project, click on the File tab
b. Select Options from left hand side
c. Click on Schedule to set the scheduling options
d. Set the Default Task type box to your chosen option
i. Generally if you plan/estimate your projects using durations you should use fixed duration, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven, if you plan/estimate with person hours use fixed work, or for plans estimated with the proportion of resources time use fixed units, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven)
e. Click OK to apply your changes
