Access - MDE

When would you change an MDB to a MDE?
What are the advantages/disadvantages?

RE: Access - MDE

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your question.

I have minimal experience in using .mde but you may convert the database to .mde if you don't want people to be able to edit the database objects just run and use them. You can send clients the database to use.

The fourth paragraph on the following link gives you an overview:

Access tip:

Create An Inaccessible Field On A Form

There is sometimes a need to make a field in a form look like a normal field but be completely inaccessible to the user. To do this:

In the Field's Properties
Set the ENABLED property to No
Set the LOCKED property to Yes

The field will not grey out, but the user will not be able to do anything with it.
