Critical path

Can I view the critical path as original baseline and at current progress?

RE: Critical path

Hi Jim

Thank you for your question. The built in views in Project include the Tracking Gantt view (View > Tracking Gantt) and this view shows current baseline with the live plan (which incorporates the critical path) overlayed above it.

MS Project calculates the critical path on the live project information rather than the baseline values. To keep a historical copy of the critical path along with the baseline you may want to save an archive copy of the plan that can be referred to once the main plan is updated.

I hope this helps - do let us know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

MS Project tip:

Keep constraining dates to a minimum

As far as possible avoid fixing the dates of your tasks. For example try to steer of clear dragging task bars in the Gantt chart to move them on the timeline or entering dates directly into the Start / Finish fields.

Date constraints such as these limit Microsoft Project's ability to automatically adjust your project whenever you add, remove or modify the duration of your tasks. Instead use the logic in your task dependencies that link your tasks to enable Project to calculate the start and finish dates for you.
