Making changes to a document

My colleague and I are working jointly on a document - sending it back and forth for amendment. The information is being input on a form from an external company.

I cannot make the usual 'track changes'. Instead I am limited to where the cursor will go on the document and when asking to highlight words or peices of text, I get the whole document highlighted. Nor will it allow spell checks on the whole document. I have checked and the document is not 'protected' but I cannot make the changes I need to.

I have tried copying the text and making a new document to amend and then import, but I cannot make changes in a new document either!

Any ideas, please?

RE: Making changes to a document

Hello Sara

Thank you for your question.

Maybe it is a form? Try bringing up the Forms toolbar (View - Toolbars - Forms), and see if the button with the padlock on it is turned on. If so see if you can turn it off by clicking the padlock button...unless you have tried this already, as you say you have checked to see if the document is protected.

Kind regards
Amanda

Thanks Amanda but that is not the answer - the protect button doesn't make any difference. Grrr

RE: Making changes to a document

Hi Sara

Thanks for your question. It certainly sounds like a form but as that's not switched on our next option would be to take a look at the document itself. Is it something you can send us? If so email it to info@stl-training.co.uk mark the subject line "Forum FAO Andrew" and we'll take a look.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Dear NAME

In addition to the suggestions made by my colleagues I would like you to refer to the following link and see if it resolves the current problem:

It suggests that you delete the normal.dot file from the template folder as sometimes it may get corrupted and cause this kind of problem.

Word tip:

Move or hide shapes in a Word 2010 document

When you insert shapes in a Word document, the easiest way to move them around is to use the Selection Pane on the Drawing Tools tab on the Ribbon. This tab only appears when you're working with graphics. Or if a shape is hidden behind another shape, just select it from the list on the page and use the arrows to move it backwards or forwards.
