How to relate internal and external billing and gross margin to timelines

RE: Budgets

Hi Roger

Thanks for your question. Two things might help to track this. On the resource sheet (View > Resource sheet) you will see that each resource has a code value (the last column in the table). You could use this to enter management or cost centre codes to align a resource with a particular budget heading. In addition back on the Gantt view you could add in a cost column (right click on a column heading e.g. Task Name and choose insert column and select the fixed cost field)
You can record non resource related costs for each task so that expenditure is counted whether or not you have costed resources assigned to the task.

I hope this helps - let us know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

MS Project tip:

Set default task type - Project 2010

a. In Project, click on the File tab
b. Select Options from left hand side
c. Click on Schedule to set the scheduling options
d. Set the Default Task type box to your chosen option
i. Generally if you plan/estimate your projects using durations you should use fixed duration, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven, if you plan/estimate with person hours use fixed work, or for plans estimated with the proportion of resources time use fixed units, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven)
e. Click OK to apply your changes
