Time and date stamp

Hi

Was wondering if you would be able to help me with a formula.

I have a worksheet that is filled in by users as they input invoices.

In Cell A8 i have written the following formula:

If(B8="","",NOW())

The idea is that if the user types an invoice number into B8 it will record the time and date they entered the record. This formula works for the first record but after i copy the formula down through column A if something is entered into B9 it will update A9 as also A8 which will distort the figures. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Hope this makes sense, if not please let me know.

Many thanks

Tony

RE: Time and date stamp

Apologies i think that i may have just figured it out by adding another condition to the IF formula. The formula now reads:

=IF(B8="","",IF(A8="",NOW(),A8))

and this appears to have done the trick.

Thanks anyway

Regards

Tony

Excel tip:

Sorting List Subtotals

If you find that you would prefer to show the items in a subtotalled list in a different order, eg ascending rather than descending, you can sort your list. To sort a subtotalled list, hide the detail rows and then sort the subtotal rows. When you sort a subtotalled list, the hidden detail rows are automatically moved with the subtotal rows.
IMPORTANT: If you do not hide the details rows before sorting a subtotalled list, your subtotals will be removed and all of the rows in your list will be reordered.
