Microsoft Project file size

Hello,

In the notes section of a task in Project 2003, I have added an Excel spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is approximately 19mb in size. As a result the total file size is now around 23mb in size.

We have a remote user on a dialup account that we wanted to send a copy of the project plan to for review. Because of the large size of the spreadsheet, we deleted the spreadsheet from the task and saved the plan. The project is still 22+ mb in size.

We can't work out how to reduce the size of the plan back to a sensible 2 to 3mb. Can you suggest how this might be achieved.

Regards

Rick

RE: Microsoft Project file size

Hi Rick

Thanks for your question. Try this:

make a backup copy of your Project
remove the attached file from the note, save and close
reopen the project and save again

this seems to release the unwanted file size.

Hope this helps - let us know if you have any other project questions.

Kind regards,

Andrew

MS Project tip:

Typing Links Between Tasks

In the Entry table, use the Precessors column to type in links. Type the previous task's ID to link. To change the link, add FS (Finish-Start), FF (Finish-Finish), and so on, and + duration to add a Lag, or - duration for a Lead time. Example: for task 5, 4FS+1w ... task 4 preceeds task 5, finish to start, with a week lag between.
