Why is there ' = ' at the front of a formula.

Hi Helena,
Thank you for your post, To answer your question, Excel requires the = sign at the beginning of a Formula or Function, this is a command to Excel to expect either of these operations, its like saying "What is the answer to:.....", without it you would only be entering in text to the cell.
