At the beginners training on 25th June we were shown a way of drawing your own table - can you remind me of which button to use. Thank you

RE: tables - layout table view in Dreamweaver 8

Hi Gill,

These instructions are for Dreamweaver version 8 or above.

Ensure the Insert panel is shown (Window -> Insert or Contorl+F2)

Change the dropdown box (the first item on the Insert toolbar) to be 'Layout'.

Now see the three buttons half-way along: Standard, Extended and Layout. Press the 'Layout' button. A bar with 'layout mode [exit]' should appear at the top of the document.

Next to the 'Layout' button you just pressed, there is a 'Layout table' tool button. Press this to switch to layout table mode.

Now on your design view, you should see a cross-hairs mouse cursor, you can click and drag a table layout.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Rich

RE: tables - layout table view in Dreamweaver 8

Thanks Rich - I've got to the 3 buttons: Standard, Extended & layout but they are greyed out so I can't get any further - any suggestions gratefully recieved.
thanks very much

RE: tables - layout table view in Dreamweaver 8

Gill,

Ensure you have started a new blank document in Dreamweaver.

Also ensure your cursor is flashing in Design view, not code view.

Try these things. If you still can't press the button, let me know here, and i'll investigate further.

Rich

Dreamweaver tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.
