RESOURCE

WILL PROJECT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT PART TIME WORKERS AS A RESOURCE

RE: RESOURCE

Hi Andy

Thank you for your question.

Project will assume by default that each resource is available to work the hours and days set in the standard calendar.

There are two ways of reducing the number of hours that a resource is available to a project in a week.

1. To say the resource is available for only a certain percentage the working week (as determined by the standard calendar), adjust the Max units for the resource in the Resources sheet.

2. If the resource is only available certain hours and certain days, then it is best to adjust the resource's calendar. Select the resource on the Resources sheet, then go to Project - Resource Information (or right-click on the resource and select Resource Information).

Select the day/s you wish to alter the resource's working hours for by clicking on the grey headers above the week days. The resources hours can be adjusted in the To: and From: columns on the right-hand side. Then click OK.

I hope this helps.
Amanda

MS Project tip:

Set default task type - Project 2010

a. In Project, click on the File tab
b. Select Options from left hand side
c. Click on Schedule to set the scheduling options
d. Set the Default Task type box to your chosen option
i. Generally if you plan/estimate your projects using durations you should use fixed duration, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven, if you plan/estimate with person hours use fixed work, or for plans estimated with the proportion of resources time use fixed units, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven)
e. Click OK to apply your changes
