Measure grand totals don't equal the sum of row-by-row column t

Hi Jens,

I hope you are well. I have an urgent issue with our Power Bi Model that I would appreciate support on.

I am using a measure, and I am having an issue where the sum of the rows in a table don't match the grand total value at the end for a Dax measure, when the measure multiplies two columns together.

I understand from reading online this is a fundamental issue with Power BI.

I have also seen and tried using the summarize function to fix the grand totals, however, then the individual row values are incorrect.

There is a possible workaround- having one column where the "row-to-row" values are correct, and have another column where only the grand total value is correct for the same calculation. However, I was wondering if there's a solution to having all the values correct in one column.

For context, we want to have a measure where the values are dependent on a set of filters. We want to do this in several different tables. We then want to sum all these different measures together in a final table.

As this is quite an urgent issue, could we please arrange a meeting early next week on how best to do this?

Thanks,
Ben

RE: Measure grand totals don't equal the sum of row-by-row colum

Hi Ben,

Thank you for reaching out and providing a detailed explanation of the issue you’re facing with Power BI. It sounds like you’re dealing with a complex situation that requires a deep understanding of DAX measures and their behaviour in Power BI.

This appears to be a consultancy request, which involves a detailed analysis of your Power BI model and potentially some time to explore and implement the best solution. Given the urgency and complexity of the issue, it’s important to manage time frames effectively.

As this is a public forum, it may not be the most suitable place to discuss specific details about your Power BI model or arrange a meeting. However, we understand the importance of this issue for you.

We will contact you directly to discuss this further and arrange a meeting

Kind regards

Richard

Optimize Report Performance

Pay attention to report performance by optimizing your data model and report design. Use the Performance Analyzer tool to identify bottlenecks in your report and improve loading times. Techniques such as using summarisation, avoiding unnecessary visuals, and optimizing DAX queries contribute to a faster and more responsive report.
