Extending drop-down lists

I’m trying to extend drop-down options down columns on a spreadsheet but am afraid I will erase existing data if I do so. The drop-down list only goes to a certain row before you have to input the data yourself. Do you know how to extend the drop-down list?

RE: Extending drop-down lists

Hello Rudi,

Thank you for your question. To copy the drop-down list to more cells down a column, select the last drop-down cell in the column, place your mouse pointer on the bottom right-hand corner of that cell, (it will change to a black plus) then click and drag downwards. This will extend the drop-down cells down the column.

You're quite right about deleting existing data further down the column. You will need to check for any existing data, then perhaps insert more rows before copying the drop-downs.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards
Marius Barnard

Excel tip:

Make a quick copy of a worksheet

Hold down the Ctrl key, then click and drag on a sheet tab to make a copy of that sheet. Though this process usefully copies the formats of the original sheet, note that any Range Names you have on the original sheet will be duplicated too.

To make a copy of a worksheet's contents and formats without duplicating range names: (1) Ensure that you have a blank worksheet to paste to. (2) On the sheet to copy, click on the sheet selection square to the left of Column A's heading to select the whole sheet. (2) Copy the whole sheet. (3) Paste to the blank worksheet.
