Refreshing data from SharePoint in Power BI

Hi Team!

My manager and I use data from SharePoint for our Power BI reports. We realised that we are unable to refresh the data due to the following error message: "Loading blocked by failures with other queries" or " The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users\elena-may\OneDrive - Black Tomato\søster\søster Dashboard 2022.xlsx' because it is being used by another process.Details: C:\Users\elena-may\OneDrive - Black Tomato\søster\søster Dashboard 2022.xlsx". I make sure I have closed SharePoint before refreshing but I still get these error messages.

We've published our Power BI report and have a workspace with admin roles so hopefully that allows us to update the report, but we can't use the data from SharePoint even though we both have access to it.

Would you be able to help with this please? Thanks so much!

RE: Refreshing data from SharePoint in Power BI

Hi Elena-may,

Thank you for the forum question.

Unfortunately the error can be many things.

First open the Power BI file in Power BI desktop, and open the Query Editor. Go through the queries and make sure that you haven't any errors. If you just click the queries Power BI will return the error.

Then refresh the report in Power BI desktop. If you get the same error, go to the query editor and see, which of the queries return the error. In the query(queries) with errors you can click show errors and you can get additional information about the error.

It can be a simple wrong step in a query, which can give you the error.

If you do not get the error when you refresh the report in Power BI desktop, the issue can be the Privacy Level settings.

I have spent time Google the issue and unfortunately this specific error can have many reasons and solutions.

You need to make sure, that you have connected to the Excel file the right way. Please see the link below.
