Turning quarterly data into graphs to compare

Hello

I work at a barristers chambers. Each quarter we review how many cases barristers have been offered to work on and accepted and how much they have been paid with other barristers of the same seniority according to gender, ethnicity and disability. There are four seniority brackets. We record times a solicitor has requested a barrister by name and times that barristers have accepted work that comes in to our organisation unnamed and they have been offered it internally. We do this to see if there are any problems with people underrepresented in law getting less work offered to them or getting paid less for comparitive work. We currently look at each quarter in isolation but would like to input our data into a graph (or two graphs one for cases and one for payments) so that we can see trends over long periods of time.

Each quarter I am sent an excel sheet generated by a colleague through our case management system LEX, which has collected the data throughout the quarter on what cases people have been working on and how much they've been paid.

We look at the data in an anonymised form. So for example (these numbers are completely made up) it might be something along the lines of

QC
Male 35 times requested 42 times accepted 13
Female 35 times requested 42 times accepted 13
Total opportunities X average opportunities Y
(repeated for ethnicity, disablility in four different brackets)

I was wondering the best way to turn this into a graph on excel so we can visually see trends?

It would help to have a step by step guide as although I use excel fairly frequently and am able to grasp new steps on it I have never had formal training on how to create graphs

Best wishes,

Isabel

RE: turning quarterly data into graphs to compare

Hello Isabel,

Thank you for your question. Excel charts are very sensitive to how the data is entered and arranged. In order for us to help you in the most effective way, would it be possible to send us an Excel file with some anonymous sample data? The email address is: info@stl-training.co.uk. This data should be laid out the same as your real data, if possible.

We can then decide on the best way forward and take you through the steps.

Kind regards
Marius Barnard
