YTD sum not working when linked to custom dates table

YTD sum not working when linked to custom dates table

We have created a YTD measure to get a cumulative total month to month. However when we connect to the custom dates table (ie, link the data sets), kindly supplied by our trainer, it gets totally confused and the dates no longer work we get blank values. We are trying to get the MonthName from the date table to show in a line chart with cumulative amounts for the year. This works fine if you use the built in date Heirachy but breaks as soon as we link the tables to use the custom month names or fiscal year.

It seems to be something with the linking of the Dates table but we can't quite see why.

This is stopping us moving forward with our testing so any help will be much appreciated.

Regards,

Keith

Hi Keith,

Thank you for the forum question.

It has something to do with your relationships. Have you related the date table from the second column Dates to your dates?

RE: YTD sum not working when linked to custom dates table

Hi Jens,

Thank you for the prompt response.

Yes it is to do with the relationship. I think I have solved it.

My DAX measure was using the dates from my table and not the Dates tables. I have to use dates from the Date table only and that appears to have solved the problem.

I will test it further today with the actual data we were working on yesterday.

Again thank you for the prompt response, much appreciated.

Regards,

Keith Manthe

RE: YTD sum not working when linked to custom dates table

Hi Keith,

Yes all date intelligent DAX must use the primary key from the date table.

I am happy that you solved the issue.
