Excel

In our last session we found that Excel could extract information like tables from a website.

Could we manipulate Excel to download a website (like the FT)s main headlines for the day and hyperlinks to those articles?

RE: Excel

Hi Mark

You can connect Excel to a website, but you will not get full "formatting".

On the Data tab click on Get external data connections from Web

When the box pops up, use the web address you require.

Click on the horizontal arrows dotted around the website to select different parts to download.

On the top right is an options tab, click on it and choose Formatting - Full HTML then OK

Click on the import button at the bottom of the box, choose a cell or Sheet as the download location and allow time for it to load

You can refresh this connection by clicking on the Refresh all button or pressing CTRL ALT F5

Let me know how that works for you

Kind regards

Excel tip:

How to Remove Duplication's from a selection of data in an Excel 2010 Worksheet

It would take far too much time to scan through rows and rows of data to find and remove duplicate data. So, here's how to do this using a much more efficient method:-

1) Select the data that might contain duplication's
2) Click the ''Data'' tab
3) Go to ''Data Tools'' and click ''Remove Duplicates''
4) A box will appear. Tick the boxes of the columns that you want to use to check for duplicates. Finally, click ''OK.''
