Problems inserting rows/columns
We tried to insert a row. I believe the message said : to prevent possible loss of data etc. and it said to CONT END to find the last nonblank cell and to delete all between that and my data. This didn't work - I guess too much. Just kept on processing for so long I had to close.
I have had this problem in more than one document.
Today a colleague had the issue. I opened his file and had no difficulty inserting rows. Went to his desk and could see that he did. Told him to close doc. Came back to my desk to insert some rows for him....and I couldn't insert.
Copied his data into a new sheet (only the range with content) so he could get on. Renamed the original sheet 'faulty' so I could send it you for examination. Now when I try it DOES let me insert rows.
So it seems intermittent.
Please advise. If you want me to sent the doc please let me know where to.
Many thanks
RE: problems inserting rows/columns
Hello Liz,
Thank you for your post. The problem might be caused by either a formula which is written to refer to the entire sheet or a large range in the sheet where you are trying, or by formatting, such as a border, which spans entire columns or rows. Try selecting the rows below the last data and then clicking Home - Editing - Clear - Clear all. Before you try this, check for any hidden rows and unhide them.
If this doesn't work, please send us a copy of the file to forum@stl-training.co.uk.
Kind regards

RE: problems inserting rows/columns
Thank you.
I tried selecting SOME of the rows below the content but not all. I couldn't find CLEAR ALL anywhere so used CLEAR CONTENTS.
I did previously try selecting and deleting or clearing the empty cells but it hung up. This time I only selected a small range.
As I said, the problem seemed intermittent so I am not sure what I've learned here.
I guess I'd better mark as resolved and log again if and when it recurs and this remedy fails.
