Proper text

Could you please remind me of the keyboard shortcut for proper text within a spreadsheet - obviously got so excited using it in training, forgot to write it down!

RE: Proper text

Hi Carol.

I don't know of a shortcut for proper text in Excel. In Word it is Shift+F3.

Here is a way to convert text to proper text with Excel.

Suppose you have a list of words typed in lower case in cells A1:A8. To turn the text into proper case:

1. Select the adjacent blank cell and type =Proper(A1).
2. Autofill through to B8.

3. To replace the original data copy the cells B1:B8 and paste as values back to A1:A8.
4. Finally clear the range B1:B8.

Sorry not to find you a shortcut. It is possible with a macro but that probably wasn't what you saw on your Excel Intermediate course.

Excel tip:

Using the Quick Access Toolbar in Excel2010

The Quick Access Toolbar is included in virtually every Office product, including Outlook 2010, Word 2010, Excel 2010, and PowerPoint 2010.

You will find the Quick Access Toolbar in the top-left side of the window. To begin, click the Customize button (it's the little black arrow at the end of the toolbar).

Simply click the commands you want to include.

Virtually any command can be added to the Quick Access Toolbar. Click the More Commands option and a new window will open from where you can browse the commands including those not on the ribbon.
