Linking workbooks
Is it possible when linking 2 workbooks (or cells) to link the formatting in the original cell as well as the data? When I have tried it is just the data that gets linked.
Many thanks
Sue
RE: Linking workbooks
Hi Sue
Excel doesn't seem to let you choose a paste option that links with a formula and keeps the formatting in one go.
You have to first copy / paste link then paste the formats afterwards. But then only the values update automatically an not the formats as you say.
If you want the formatting to update in the target cells as well as the values there is a way by Paste Linking as a Picture.
To do this copy the source data then choose
Home, click the triangle under Paste,
Choose Link Picture (from Other Paste options)
This creates a graphical object which updates both it's values and formatting whenever there are changes.
Hope that helps.

The only way would be to paste link as a picture
