Microsoft Project cause and effect

We discussed cause and effect relationships in producing a programme. When the task name headings are sorted in order of function rather than sequence of events, what impact does this have on the logic of the cause and effect realtionships?

RE: Microsoft Project cause and effect

Hello Andrew,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Project Intro - Intermediate course with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding Microsoft Project cause and effect.

When you sort the Task Name column in order of function rather than sequence of events this does not have any effect on the logic of the cause and effect realtionships. Looking at the Gantt chart will prove this since you will notice some link lines starting lower down and pointing upwards and of course vice versa. This proves that the relationships created by your linking structure remain intact. Sort again by ID and everything will be back as it was (unless you permanently re-numbered the ID column, which is not a good idea!).

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

MS Project tip:

Set default task type - Project 2010

a. In Project, click on the File tab
b. Select Options from left hand side
c. Click on Schedule to set the scheduling options
d. Set the Default Task type box to your chosen option
i. Generally if you plan/estimate your projects using durations you should use fixed duration, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven, if you plan/estimate with person hours use fixed work, or for plans estimated with the proportion of resources time use fixed units, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven)
e. Click OK to apply your changes
