Calculating "IF"

I have dont a colum of if formula's what is the best what of totalling these colums or should I say the correct way to get a total

RE: Calculating "IF"

Hello Audrey,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Excel Advanced course with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding the correct way to get a total.

Your question was difficult to read, however, I assume you need to know how to create a formula that produces a total at the end of a column of numbers. The formula would be as follows:

=SUM(A2:A20) assuming that your data numbers started in cell A2 and ended at cell A20

I have attached a file with an example if this helps.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

RE: Calculating "IF"

Hi Rodney

Thank you for working out what I actually wanted and sorry for not making myself clear.

I did the exact formula that you stated about but the total still came back as zero, I even formated the cell thinking it was in the wrong format and it still didnt work. So I don't know if there is a step I am missing.

Thanks

RE: Calculating "IF"

Dear Rodney and Audrey,

I received the file to forum@stl-training.co.uk

The email address isn't really monitored, but I'm attaching it to Audrey's post above.

Audrey, there is no upload option at the moment due to security reasons. It is in the pipeline to develop a way forward.

RE: Calculating "IF"

Hello Audrey,

I've looked at the cell which you are unable to total. The formula is correct so that would indicate that the data is faulty. The range of data is produced from a formula which uses an IF function. The TRUE part of the formula is "0" and the FALSE part is "£5.25". When entering numbers into the value section of a formula using the IF function do not include inverted commas (""). These are only used for text items. Once you have removed all the inverted commas then the SUM formula works.

Give this a try!
