Text to columns
Dear Forum,
I am trying to split text from column A to more columns. I have learnt how to do this; however the information is not a fixed width (i.e. Spaces) (there are spaces, however this is between every word and would create too many columns) or deliminated (there are semi colons, but not where i need the columns to be split); so I am not sure how to split it.
Can anyone help.
RE: Text to columns
Hello Rebecca,
Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Excel course with BEST Training.
Thank you for your question regarding text to columns.
Could you let me know how you want to split the columns, if not by space or semicolon, then how do you want it to look?
Regards,
Richard
RE: Text to columns
Hi Richard,
I did thanks, Andrew was very funny and a great trainer.
Think I might have hit the wrong button there...accidently marked as resolved.
I do want it to be split between spaces; it's just that if it splits where all of the spaces currently are I'll have too many columns if that makes sense. There are no comma's and the semi colon's don't split in the right place either...does that make sense?
Many thanks.
RE: Text to columns
Hello Rebecca,
That does make sense.
There are some text functions which can help you structure the text so that you get closer to your result. It requires some trial and error.
Look into using CONCATENATE, which essentially joins the contents of cells together (remember to leave a gap for spaces).
so once you have split the cells and have too many columns, use CONCATENATE to join some of them back together.
If that does not work, please send an example of your sheet to info@stl-training.co.uk, marked for my attention and we will look into it for you.
Regards,
Richard
