Nesting in Excel

For any cell, a pop-up appears in Excel 2007 when my cell exceeds 7 nests in the function (made up of Ifs and AND functions). I'm saving the spreadsheet as a Excel 97-2004 compatible file. Is there anyway round this? And do later versions of Excel allow a greater degree of nesting?

RE: Nesting in Excel

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your question regarding nesting functions in Excel.

Excel 2003 and all previous versions only allow 7 nested functions. Excel 2007 and on allow up to 64 nested functions. If you want to use more than 7 nested functions, therefore, you will not be able to save the file as an Excel 97-2003 version.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Excel tip:

Counting Non Number Cells (Text)

If you try to use the COUNT FUNCTION =COUNT(Cell range)with a range of cells with numbers and or containing text fields you wil find that that the text cells will be excluded from the the count. If you want to include them try the the COUNTA FUNCTION =COUNTA(Cell range). This counts both text and number cell values.
