Microsoft Excel can ensure you keep on top of your finances
Mon 29th June 2009
The advantage of Excel is its versatility and ease-of-use, which ensures that it meets both personal and business needs. In fact, the software is so useful that Microsoft have included it in all the suites they currently offer. The software is handy for those wishing to purchase Microsoft Office Basic for their small business or study needs, while it also meets the requirements of corporations who are looking to input larger amounts of information.
A vast array of spreadsheets can be created using MS Excel and the programme is designed to help you create documents quickly and easily. Recent editions of the programme have extended the number of columns and rows that you can use to submit data, meaning your files can hold a staggering amount of information, such as all the sales figures from across your company.
However if you wish to design simple tables that reflect a few of your personal outgoings, such as household costs you can do so. Creating spreadsheets has been made even simpler with MS Excel 2007, which offers several tabs that can get you started. Many people choose to use Excel to design charts that reflect the workings of their business.
You can choose from an array of templates that are already provided and you also have the freedom to make your document as individual and eye-catching as possible, so it suits your company. This is easily achieved by navigating the user-friendly ribbon that MS Excel 2007 boasts. From there, you can pick out a chart that reflects the information you have inputted into the programme.
For example, if you wanted to see a visual interpretation of sales figures from different departments, figures that have been entered can be transformed into graphs, which can sometimes give a clearer representation of your finances. Different charts may require you to first submit information into your spreadsheet in a particular format, details of which can be provided on helpful Excel training courses that can make sure you get the best from this programme.
The advantage of the software is it allows you to share your created charts with others. For instance, they can be used in conjunction with PowerPoint for professional presentations. In addition, for those wanting to bring their charts to life, it is possible to integrate animations into these documents.
Before printing, you may like to take advantage of MS Excel's Page Layout functions, which provide you with the opportunity to view your finished product. If you simply want to keep your data in spreadsheet form you can use a range of functions that can help you track your accounts.
As well as working out complex formulas, MS Excel can help you present this information in an easy-to-understand and high impact way. For example if you are keen to highlight certain figures, such as outgoings that exceed a certain level or percentage, you can programme the software to fill in these areas with different shades to draw attention to the data.
MS Excel is a useful programme that can help you to quickly establish your financial status in both your home and business.

Graduate Trainee Alice Littler Excel Advanced I thought the course was great and definitely covered the topics I wanted to cover. The only thing I would say is that it's tough when so many people with different levels of ability join, as we have to cover some of he basics (which are great for a reminder) but also can be a little repetitive. For example the work on pivot tablets was great but mainly work I already know, I would have liked a little more detail on 'calculated fields' etc on Pivot tables rather than the building. Might be better for me to join an individual session on a specific topic next time! Thank you for your time and patience! AppsFlyer
