Linking Project to Visio

How do I export my data to Visio

RE: Linking Project to Visio

Hi Geoff,

Thank you for your question.

It would probably be better to do it the other way round.

Open up Visio and create a new Gantt drawing found in the Project Schedule Template. On the toolbar, you should find the Gantt bar menu. Click the menu and choose 'Import'.

Now follow these steps:

1. On the page of the Wizard, select 'Information that's already stored in a file'.

2. Select Microsoft Office Project File.

3. Browse for the mpp file and on the next page select the time scale and duration format.

Then select the task types to include in the Visio Gantt Chart.

Click Finish to create a Visio Gantt Chart with the properties you specified in the wizard.

I hope this helps and answers your question.

Regards

Simon

MS Project tip:

Set default task type - Project 2010

a. In Project, click on the File tab
b. Select Options from left hand side
c. Click on Schedule to set the scheduling options
d. Set the Default Task type box to your chosen option
i. Generally if you plan/estimate your projects using durations you should use fixed duration, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven, if you plan/estimate with person hours use fixed work, or for plans estimated with the proportion of resources time use fixed units, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven)
e. Click OK to apply your changes
