How does VLOOKUP work?

How exactly does this work? I need this function in my everyday work so I would love some advice please.

RE: VLOOKUP

Hi Evanthia,

Thank you for your feedback and welcome to the forum.

The Vlookup formula has four arguments:
(Lookup_Value,Table_array,Column_Index_Number,Range_Lookup)

The function is used to search for a value entered into a cell, search for that value in the first column of your database(Table_Array) and return the value from a column you specify in the same row.

Please find the link below:

This is a working example. I have also attached an example spreadsheet with an example.

I hope this helps you.

Regards

Simon

Excel tip:

Showing all menu items

If you go into a pull down menu you usally find that you get a selection of items(this is the default) or sometimes everything. If you only get a selectiopn you have to go to the double arrows at the bottom of the menu and click it to get all of the hidden items.
To turn this off so that you always get everything, go to Tools / Customize / Options Tab / "Always show full menus". Make sure there is a tick in the box and you will always have every item.
