Macros

we have to select random files for audit from existing databases, would a macro be able to be used for this purpose of random sampling

RE: macros

Hi Lesley, thanks for your query. That is possible, but it depends how random you want it! I would put hyperlinked filepaths in a series of cells in Excel and then use the walkthrough below to pick one at random.

http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/excel-random-pick.htm

To open it, or pick it from a folder you'll need to pick up some VBA!

Hope this helps,

Anthony

Excel tip:

New to Excel 2010 - Sparklines!

Excel 2010 includes a new feature called Sparklines which are tiny charts that fit into a single cell and plot data in cells from the worksheet. There are a host of formatting and styles that can be applied to them and they are really quite interesting.

>insert
>sparklines
>Choose any style you want

You will be asked for the range and it will automatically select the cell your in to insert the sparklines.
