Slow performance => Seect Query

Hello,

I am currently trying to run a query with a DSUM function and a Subtract function, this has resulted in very slow performance as there are currently approximatelty 6000 data entries. Can you advise how best to optimise performance, I think I may have read somewhere that this should be done via a form as generally calculations within a select query are deemed to be malpractice.

I look forward to your responce.

Many Thanks
Salima

RE: Slow performance => Seect Query

Hello Salima,

Thank you for your question regarding Access query.

There are many options available to optimize slow queries, the idea of a form will not necessarily solve this, most optimisation will require good knowledge of SQL. However, you could try only including data columns that are essential, and also try running the Optimizer in Access. From the Database tools ribbon in 2007, under the section called Analyze, select the Analyze Performance option.
From the dialog box, select queries, and tick the queries to check. Access will make suggestions on how to optimize for best performance.
This may help in speeding up the query.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.
