how to do subtotals with filters

RE: exel

Hello Julie

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

The SUBTOTAL function can be used to create totals, averages etc with filtered data.

To use the function, enter it in when the data is unfiltered; then when you apply a filter you'll find that the result changes.

Use the Insert Function button (fx next to the formula bar) to insert the function SUBTOTAL, using the Help with this function link to see how it works.

Kind regards
Amanda

Excel tip:

No Zeros

Want all the zeros in your worksheet to appear blank? Choose Tools/Options, Click on the View Tab, Deselect the Zero Values Option, Click OK.
Easy wasn't it? But be aware that these cells are not actually blank, they still contain the value zero. This is important because certain functions (ie AVERAGE) make a distinction between blank cells and those with a zero value.
