Document protection

How do I protect part of a document so that others cannot overwrite - thanks

RE: Document protection

Hi Joanne,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

The first thing you need to do is highlight the paragraph of text that needs to be protected. The next step is to go to the Developer tab and choose Group and Group.

Then select the Properties option and choose control cannot be edited or deleted option.

The following link outlines the process for you as well:

http://blogs.msdn.com/microsoft_office_word/archive/2006/10/26/protect-me.aspx

Now click on the Protect Document button on the ribbon and choose the 2nd option checkbox(allow...).

Choose No Changes(Read Only). In the next selection, select the paragraphs of text that you want edited or if it requires deletion and then select the Everyone Group Checkbox.

Then choose Yes Start Enforcing Protection and choose and re-enter your chosen password.

People will only be allowed to edit the paragraphs you haven't Grouoed. The Paragraph Group you added cannot be edited or deleted.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Simon

Word tip:

Change paragraph position quickly

Here are some handy shortcut keys for rearranging paragraphs in your document.

Simply click anywhere in the paragraph you wish to reposition; then hold down Shift + Alt then use the Arrow Up or Arrow Down key depending on which direction you want to move the paragraph in (up or down).

The paragraph will move up or down one paragraph at a time.
