Merging Projects

Although projects can be merged to follow on from each other, how would you advise merging different projects that will be running at the same time and using the same resourses.

RE: Merging Projects

Hi Rebecca,

Thank you for your question.

The first thing you would need to do is create a new project file and enter the resources into Resource sheet view. If you have an existing list of resources you can copy and paste all the resource information into a blank resource sheet in a new Project file.

This project file becomes the resource pool that will be shared among multiple projects running at the same time. Save the resource pool.

With the resource pool open, open each project that will share the same resource pool. For each project, go to Tools, Resource Sharing and Share resources. Use the 'Use Resources from' and select your resource pool and then OK. Save the Sharer Project.

Repeat the procedure for each of the other Project files.

The following link is direct from Microsoft site explaining the process in a bit more detail.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Simon

MS Project tip:

Compare Work and Duration

Duration is the timescale within which a task is done; Work is the specific time element used. For example, 3 days work in a duration of 2 weeks. To compare, add the Work field into the Entry table by right clicking a column heading to Add Field.
