Fill series alphabetically

Cat has attended:

Fill series alphabetically

When I wish to fill down a series of numbers ie 1,2,3 etc I can just hold my right mouse button down and drag the cursor to the required end point, then select Fill Series from the menu.
How is this done with regard to the alphabet, ie A, B, C etc?

Thank you for attending Excel 2007 Advanced course!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.

The fill series works because they are normally entered into the custom list.

Unfortunately the Alphabets are not normally in that list but you can follow these steps to add them to the custom list so next time when you Type in A and then use the Fill handle to drag the other letters will appear automatically!

1. Choose Office Button and then Excel Options.

2. In eth Popular sections click the Edit custom lists... button

3. Ensuring that you are on New List on the right hand pane copy and paste the following:
A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z.

4. Press Add Button

5. Press OK to close the Edit Custom List dialog box

6. Press OK again to close the Excel Options dialog box

7. Try by trying any Letter and then dragging the fill handle down should give you the remaining letters that you want!!

COUNT function vs COUNTA function

The COUNTA function works in the same way as the COUNT function, except that it will count cells that contain text (labels) and also cells that contain numbers (values). The COUNT function will only count cells that contain numbers. Blank cells are not counted by either the COUNT or the COUNTA function.
