Save/open options for track changes

Hello
We require our stationery templates to have protection applied. We also wish to provide the option to use track changes.

It seems that we can't allow the user the option to apply or dis-apply track changes without forfeiting the protection.

So we have to have track changes active in our templates.

We therefore have to teach users to switch to "final" if they don't want changes tracked visibly.

Ideally when a user opens a template to start a new document, the default setting would be "final". How can we achieve this? It normally seems to default to "final showing markup".

RE: save/open options for track changes

Dear Liz

Thank you for your query!!

Normally it depends on the time when the template was saved if what ever option was set the template will be set to those settings.

I create two separate templates One with the option of Final and the Other Final showing mark-up. They seem to work perfectly fine.

Please open the original template that you have Choose the option how you want everyone to see when the file is opened by the end users. i.e. Final, Final showing mark-up, original, etc....

Save the file as a template after protecting the file

When the file is protected and the track changes are on the user cannot accept or reject any changes!! They will have to unprotect the file to do so.

I hope this has answered your query.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

RE: save/open options for track changes

Thanks for you message. However, it doesn't work for us at all. Two of us have tried doing exactly what you recommend. When we open the document from the template, the default is Final Showing Mark-up despite our selecting Final before saving and protecting.

RE: save/open options for track changes

Dear Liz

Thank you for your response.

Please try this and see if it works for you as it seems to be working for me.

Choose Tools > Options...

In the Security Tab under the privacy section please un-tick the option called "Make hidden markup visible when opening and saving."

Press OK.

I am sure this will rectify the problem.

Please let me know how you get along.

Word tip:

Configure paste options in Word 2010

When you copy text and paste it into Word, the formatting is the same as where you copied the text from originally. You can change it to match the formatting of the current document but to avoid having to do this every time you paste text, follow the following steps:

1) Click the Office button
2) Then Word Options
3) Go to Advanced
4) Under the Cut, copy and paste heading, use the first four drop-down menus to choose a default setting for format pasting.
