Excel 2003 cell naming

I am having difficulty getting my head around naming a cell and how that is used later. Do I name the cell in the top bar at the left hand side?

RE: Excel 2003 cell naming

Hi Dee

Yes. In the Excel Formula bar there is a Name Box on the left side.

The quickest way of naming a Cell or a Range of Cells is to highlight the relevant cell(s) and then to click in the Name Box and enter the name (eg Name a cell holding the vat value as VAT).

Then when creating a formula that involves vat you could write

= C8 * VAT

Hope this helps

Excel tip:

Hide separate columns in Excel 2010

If you want to hide columns not adjacent to each other for example, Columns A, C and E then:-

1) Click on the fist column to be hidden i.e. A

2) Press and hold down the CTRL key

3) While holding the CTRL key, left click on the rest of the columns you want to hide i.e. C and E

4) Right click and choose Hide
