Word document templates

Where would I find a drop box for adding a list of names.

RE: Word document templates

Hello Sophie

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

To create a dropdown list in a document, you need to insert form controls.

How this works is that you provide controls for people to be able to select from (dropdown list), tick or write into; then you protect the document so they can only fill in the bits of the document which are created by form controls.

To introduce form controls into a document, you will need to bring up the Forms toolbar (View - Toolbars - Forms).

On the left hand side of the toolbar are your form controls (text form field, check box form field, drop-down form field).

To insert a form control, simply click on the control you wish to use.

You will probably see a grey rectangle appear on in your document - this is the form control you have just inserted.

If you have inserted a dropdown list, you will then need to add the items to the list, by clicking on the Form Field Options button on the Forms toolbar.

Next to Drop-down item, type in the first name you wish to have in your list, then click Add.

Repeat the above step until you have added all names; then click OK. If you want to change the order of the list or remove a name, then you will need to go back into Form Field Options again.

To finish, if you can still see grey shading behind the controls you have inserted, click the Form Field Shading button on the Forms toolbar; then also click the Protect Form (padlock) button.

Your form will now be ready for people to use.

I hope this helps.
Amanda

Word tip:

Remove 'Getting Started' Pane

When you start Microsoft Word 2003 a "Getting Started" pane appears to the right of the new document window.

It contains several options such as "Connect to Microsoft Office Online", "Get the latest news about using Word" and a list of your most recently accessed documents. Though useful to some, others may find it annoying.

The following steps allow you to remove the "Getting Started" pane.

1. Choose Tools then Options

2. In the Options dialog box select the View tab

3. Uncheck Startup Task Pane

4. Click OK to close the dialog box.
