RE: Weekends

Hi Emma

By default the standard calendar in Project sets weekends as non-working time. That means that tasks scheduled to span weekends will pause at the end of Friday and begin again on the next working day, Monday.

The Gantt chart however draws the bar of the task directly through the weekend which could be interpreted as if work is actually taking place on Saturday and Sunday. To avoid this double click on any weekend in the Gantt chart area of the project. The dialogue box that comes up allows you to control how non-working time is drawn on your chart. On the left side of the dialogue box choose to have non working time drawn in front of the bars, rather than behind. When you click on OK you will see that tasks that span weekends are now broken by Saturdays and Sundays, making it more obvious that work is not taking place on those days.

Let us know if you need further information,

Regards,
Andrew

MS Project tip:

Compare Work and Duration

Duration is the timescale within which a task is done; Work is the specific time element used. For example, 3 days work in a duration of 2 weeks. To compare, add the Work field into the Entry table by right clicking a column heading to Add Field.
