How do you do dependencies?

RE: dependencies

Hi Jenna,

Thank you for question.

To show the dependencies, you need to go to Tools - Formula Auditing - Show the formula auditing toolbar.

If you then select a cell that contains a formula, click on the second button on the toolbar which is Trace precedents. This will show you the cells that are used in the formula.

The second option is useful if you have something like an interest rate that is used in formulas throughout your spreadsheet. Select the cell that contains the interest rate and click on the fourth button on the toolbar Trace dependents. This will then show you all the cells that are dependent(cells that will change) upon the interest rate changing.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

Simon

Excel tip:

Importing Numbers in Excel 2010

Occasionally, when importing data into Excel you find that the some of the imported values are treated as text.

To convert these numbers to actual values, click on an empty cell and press Ctrl+C.

Next, select the range that contains the values you need to change and in the Clipboard Group on the Home tab, click the Paste drop-down arrow and choose Paste Special. In the Paste Special dialog box, select Add and then click OK.
