how do you make a template

RE: excel 2007 - Template file

Dear JP

Thank you for attending Excel Courses.

I hope the course was interesting and beneficial for you!!

Templates are files that you create once and can reuse them as many times as you want without affecting the original file. Every time you try to open the file it mostly creates a copy of the file.

When you are creating a template file please ensure that you only put the headings and formatting that will be common to all the files that will be using the template file. The data that is expected to change should not be entered in the template file.

Once you have finalised your file then you can simply:

save the file as a template file in the Save As Dialog box. Please note that as soon as you choose Template from the save as type drop down list the location of the folder automatically changes to Templates.

Once the template file has been saved in the templates folder in order to create a new file based on that template file you have to choose Office button and then New

Then you choose My Templates and select the template file and start entering the data as normal.

Please note that the template file saved inside the template folder cannot be shared as other users would not be able to share your local drive. It is recommended that you save another copy of the template folder in your shared network drive which other users can easily access.

I hope this has answered your query.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

Excel tip:

Calculate age or service

The DATEDIF() function in Excel calculates the number of days, months, or years between two dates. So, this function makes it easy to calculate a person's age. To try this tip:

In a blank worksheet, type the birth date in cell A1, using slashes to separate day, month, and year.
In cell A2, type =DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"y") and press ENTER.
