Dreamweaver Put command

Hi, just when I thought I'd seen the last of Dreamweaver's tricks, it comes up with a new one which is stopping me from using the Put command, so that I can't updload any updated files to the remote website. I get an error box saying "File activity incomplete" and listing the files that I tried to Put. This problem seems to affect all the files and has appeared suddenly for no obvious reason. Grateful for your help. Thanks, Simon

RE: Dreamweaver Put command

Simon,

If this has happened without you making any changes to settings, I would be suspicious that it is a problem on your web server (or hosting company).

Try creating a new 'site' in dreamweaver with the correct settings, and see if it lets you put up a (test) file. If it does, you may need to edit your proper site's settings in Dreamweaver.

Click on the 'test connection' button too. If it can connect, then perhaps it's a permission problem on your web server. Ask your hosting company if they've done any updates on your server lately and how you can get access again. You may need to set up a new FTP account with appropriate permissions.

Other things to check are:
- ensure you have internet connection (eg. can you bring up and do a search in google on your computer)
- ensure dreamweaver has access to the internet (eg. is not blocked by a firewall)
- check the error log that dreamweaver brings up and ensure dreamweaver is trying to put the files into the correct folder on your web server.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards, Rich

RE: Dreamweaver Put command

Rich,

Many thanks for your tips - I've just returned after two weeks away & the problem has disappeared, so I imagine that it was a server problem. Thanks for your comments - I will keep them for future reference.

Thanks
Simon

RE: Dreamweaver Put command

I recall this message being displayed a number of times when attempting to 'Put' a PDF file that is still open in Adobe Acrobat. Once the file is closed in Acrobat, the file can be published.

Dreamweaver tip:

JumpMenu in new window

When inserting a jumpmenu to a page, the only option available for 'open in' is usually 'main window'. There would be other options available if the page was a frameset.

To change the jumpmenu to open in a new window, change the target parameter of the selectbox in your code to 'window.open()'.

eg.

<select name="menu1" onChange="MM_jumpMenu('window.open()',this,0)">
