I'd like to know about the variety of ways it is possible to display the project information - eg. from the same project file, is it possible to display a detailed list of tasks, and a summary of key stages etc?

If you play with the filters and grouping options, and then use print preview you will get a number of ways to examine the data, another way of displaying data is to use the view/reports and try those out.
