Our Microsoft Visio intermediate/advanced training course is suitable for those who are familiar with the basic functions and features of Microsoft Visio.

Prerequisites

A basic working knowledge of Visio is required, or our Microsoft Visio Introduction course.

Build with Layers

Creating Technical Layouts

- 1. Go to the 'View' tab.

- 2. Select 'Layer Properties' to see the list of layers in your document.

Create a Layer:

- 1.Go to the 'Home' tab.

- 2.Click on 'Layers' in the 'Editing' group.

- 3.Select 'Layer Properties'.

- 4.Click 'New' to create a new layer.

- 5.Name your layer and click 'OK'.

- 1. Remove a Layer:

- 1.In the 'Layer Properties' dialog, click 'Remove'.

Rename a Layer:

- 1.In the 'Layer Properties' dialog, click 'Rename', enter the new name, and click 'OK'.

Setting Layer Properties

- 1. Select the layer you want to modify.

- 2.Set properties such as visibility, printability, and lock status by checking or unchecking the boxes.

Controlling Shape Placement

- 1. Select the shape you want to assign to a layer.

- 2. Right-click the shape, go to 'Format', and select 'Layer'.

- 3. Choose the layer from the list and click 'OK'.

Scale and Precision

Setting a Drawing Scale

- 1. Go to the 'Design' tab.

- 2. Click 'Page Setup' in the 'Page Setup' group.

- 3. Select the 'Drawing Scale' tab.

- 4. Choose a predefined scale or set a custom scale.

Working with Building Plan Layouts

- 1. Open a new Visio document and select a building plan template.

- 2.Use the 'Walls, Doors, and Windows' stencil to drag and drop elements onto your layout.

- 3.Adjust dimensions by selecting and resizing elements.

Drawing with Precision

- 1. Enable 'Snap & Glue' from the 'View' tab.

Using Perspective

- 2.Select 'Perspective' from the 'Themes' group.

Custom Shapes and Stencils

Advanced Custom Shape Design

Creating New Shapes

- 1. Go to the 'Home' tab.

- 2. Use the drawing tools (e.g., Rectangle, Ellipse) to create your shape.

- 3. Right-click the shape and choose 'Add to My Shapes' > 'Favorites' or another stencil.

Revising Existing Shapes

- 1. Select the shape.

- 2. Right-click and choose 'Edit Master' > 'Edit Master Shape'.

- 3. Make your changes and close the shape window.

- 4. Save the changes when prompted.

Locking and Protecting Shapes

- 1. Select the shape.

- 2. Right-click and choose 'Format' > 'Protection'.

- 3. Check the properties you want to lock (see below)

- 4. Click 'OK'.

Creating Custom Stencils

- 1. Go to the 'More Shapes' menu.

- 2. Click 'New Stencil'.

- 3. Drag shapes from other stencils into your new stencil.

- 4. Right-click the stencil title and choose 'Save As' to name and save it.

Adding Shapes to the Stencil

- 1. Create or select a shape.

- 2. Drag the shape into your custom stencil.

- 3. Right-click the shape in the stencil and choose 'Rename Master' to name it.

Saving the Stencil

- 1. Right-click the stencil title.

- 2. Choose 'Save As'.

- 3. Enter a name and save the stencil.
