Excel Introduction course

Hyperlink

Please remind me how to create a hyperlink. (The computers at the course had been temporarily disabled for getting hyperlinks to work). Thank you!

RE: Hyperlink

Hi Nicole

To create a hyperlink:

1. Select (highlight) the text you want to add the hyperlink to.

2. Right-click directly on top of the text you have selected - there should be a Hyperlink option in the menu that comes up on your screen.

3. The Insert Hyperlink dialogue box will appear on your screen. The text that the hyperlink will be attached to is displayed in the 'Text to display' area at the top.

4. Ensure you have the correct option selected from the left hand side of the dialogue box - for example, if you want the hyperlink to open a web page, make sure 'Existing File or Web Page' is selected on the left.

5. Enter the web page address in the 'Address' area at the bottom of the dialogue box (it is a good idea to copy and paste this in from your browser window to ensure that the address is correct).

6. Click OK. The hyperlink is now set up. (If you have created the hyperlink in PowerPoint, it will only work in slideshow view. In other applications, you should be able to click on it straight away to test it).

Hope this helps - Amanda

Excel tip:

Filtering Data in an Excel 2010 Worksheet

When you have an Excel Worksheet with masses of data, it's not going to be easy to sift through it. So, in order to view sections of data, you can use the filter tool. Select the cells you want to filter (no need to select the column headers), then click the Home tab on the Ribbon, click Sort and Filter (you will find this in the Editing Section) then click Filter.

You will now see arrows in the top row of all the columns. If you click on an arrow, it will give you some filtering options so you can sort your data into ''Smallest to Largest'' or ''Oldest to Newest'' and so on..

To turn off the filtering, go back to the Home tab and click the Filter button again.
