What is Autocalculate?

RE: Excel

Hi Michelle

Thank you for your question.

AutoCalculate refers to a feature you will find in the status bar (grey bar) at the bottom of the Excel screen.

What it does is that if you select a range of cells that contain numbers, it will, by default, tell you what the sum (total) of the selected cells is. It will say SUM= followed by the total.

You can right-click on where you see SUM= and choose a different function to display, for example, AVERAGE, which will then display the average of the selected cells.

Excel tip:

Calculate age or service

The DATEDIF() function in Excel calculates the number of days, months, or years between two dates. So, this function makes it easy to calculate a person's age. To try this tip:

In a blank worksheet, type the birth date in cell A1, using slashes to separate day, month, and year.
In cell A2, type =DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"y") and press ENTER.
