Date Sorting

Hi,

Is is possible to have a date column just reading the month, and sorting as the month, rather than in alphabetical.

I understand that you can have date in a number of standard options (eg 01/01/07 , 01 January 07 etc) but is there a way where you simply just view the month in text (eg January , March), but it recognises it as a date rather than text.

Many thanks,
Norah.

RE: Date Sorting

Hi Norah. Yes, this is possible - in Excel. Use the Sort dialog box as usual but click on Options at the bottom left hand corner and make sure your "First Key Options" are set to the months of the year. This then becomes the default sort order.

Hope this helps,

Anthony

RE: Date Sorting

Hi Anthony,

Thank you very much. I'm finding this and all the other responses very helpful.

Norah.

Excel tip:

Trace Dependents / Precedents without the blue arrows

Rather than using the toolbar you can press CTRL+] which is the equivelent of trace dependants and CTRL+[ for precendants. Both of these ways though will not show the blue arrows but jump to the cell containing the formula.
