Locking a formula

I am using an IF function and need to copy it down but some of the cells have an incorrect answer. I think it's because I've not locked the formula correctly, how do I do this please?

RE: Locking a formula

Hi Leila,

Thank you for the forum question.

If you copy down, all fixed cell references will need to a $ in front of the row number. If you have a constant in, let us say in A1 and you don't want Excel to move down to A2 when you copy the IF function one row down you need to reference the cell A$1.

I do not know what the problem is with your IF, based on the few details in the question.

Excel tip:

Adding Rows or Columns in an Excel 2010 Worksheet

If you want to add a row to an Excel spreadsheet, these are the simple steps you should take:

With your mouse, right click on the row header below where you want the new row to be added. Then, click Insert.

Follow exactly the same steps if you want to add a column to an Excel worksheet, right click on the column header, choose Insert and the new column will be inserted to the left of the selected column.
