Can you remind me how to turn a set of data into a list - I don't think it is in the PDF provided (sorry if it is)

RE: Lists

Hi Amy,

Thank you for your question to the forum.

I assume when you say you want to 'turn data into a list' you mean a drop down list. This is part of the Data Validation topic on the Excel Advanced course and can be applied as follows:

1. In Excel, select the cell or cells in which to populate your drop down list

2. Go to DATA > DATA VALIDATION. Under 'Allow' change 'Any value' to 'List'

3. Click inside the 'Source' field and select the data set you want to convert. Click OK

You can now see the list available in this cell where you can choose an item within the list

I hope this is what you were asking for. Please let me know if this has helped you

Kind regards

RE: Lists

Hi

No sorry that is not what I meant - Jens Bonde showed a data set which was not in a list format and therefore difficult to work with in excel using V/Xlookups. He showed a quick way of converting this data into a list format.

Thanks

Amy

RE: Lists

Hi Amy,

I showed you how Excel Power Query can change wrong structured data into a list.

I have found a nice YouTube video which will take you through the steps.

Please watch the video and let me know, if you have further questions.

Excel tip:

Manually rotating a 3D chart

To manually rotate a 3D chart;
Select the chart (edit mode) and click on one corner of the chart display area. A selection border will appear, using the left mouse button on one of the chart's "corners" (mouse pointer changes to a cross) drag the image which becomes a line representation of the chart (as you begin to drag) and rotate the chart to a view of your choice.
If you dont get it right first time, dont worry, the manoeuver is a little bit tricky.
