How to code in Excel

RE: coding

Hi Aidan,

Thank you for the forum question.

You have a lot of options.

Probably the most used coding language in Excel is VBA, but you can also code in TypeScript which is a superset of JavaScript, SQL, DAX, and PowerQueryM.

VBA codes can be written in the visual basic editor.

In PowerPivot data modelling you use DAX and SQL and you use PowerQueryM if you use the Power Query tool in Excel.

TypeScript is to write office scripts.

How to code? was your question. Well you will need to learn how to, but it is very rewarding. Everything can be fully automated and a lot of time spent in Excel can be reduced to zero time.

Kind regards

Excel tip:

Generate randon numbers

Some types of analysis require you to use randomly generated numbers. You can also use randomly generated numbers to quickly populate an Excel spreadsheet. There's an easy function you can use to do this automatically. Here are a few of the ways you can use it:

Type =RAND() in a cell to generate a number between 0 and 1.
Type =RAND()*100 to generate a number between 1 and 100.
