Link data from another Excel workbook (Easier than XLookup?)

I have a workbook that looks up individual info on separate sheets within different workbooks.
At the moment I'm using XLookup and linking each bit of info to each little section in the other workbooks. Both workbooks are updated at various points & I'm trying to track when info is added & not communicated.
I don't know how else to describe what I'm trying to do. I've gone the long route but every time a new project is started i have to do all of it again.

Hi Dale,

Thank you for the forum question.

I am not sure I fully understand what you want, but if you need to know if changes have been done in a Excel worksheet, you can use the tool Track Changes.

But it can only be used in a shared Excel file.

I try to avoid shared Excel files for a number of reasons.

You have a VBA solution I would use.

Please have a look at the link below.

Excel tip:

How to apply the same formatting and data to multiple sheets at the same time in Excel 2010

When you want to format more than one sheet in a worksheet exactly the same way, Ctrl-click the tabs of the sheets you want to group together and they will all turn white. While they are grouped, anything you enter in one sheet gets entered into the others.

After you have done this, remember to click on the tabs to take them out of the group so that you do not accidentally insert data in multiple sheets when you just want to insert data in one.
